London Diamond Bourse Launches Women’s Network

The London Diamond Bourse (LDB) is excited to announce the launch of its new Women’s Network, a dedicated initiative aimed at empowering and supporting the women that shape the diamond and jewellery industry.

The inaugural event ‘Coffee and Diamonds’ took place at the LDB in December, hosting the women of the London Diamond Bourse in an event that marks the beginning of a new chapter in the Bourse’s ongoing efforts to promote inclusivity, collaboration, and career development for women in the industry.

As part of the agenda set out by the new Council of Management, the empowerment of women has been placed at the forefront of its priorities. This commitment has already been demonstrated by the appointment of the first ever female Vice President, a milestone that reflects the organisation’s ongoing efforts to encourage greater diversity and leadership within the trade.

Now, progressing further on this commitment, the Women’s Network aims to provide a platform for female professionals in the diamond and jewellery industry to connect, collaborate and support one another through networking. The inaugural ‘Coffee and Diamonds’ event offered a relaxed and engaging environment for women to discuss the future of the industry, share insights with one another and build meaningful connections across the supply chain.

Charlotte Rose, Vice President of the London Diamond Bourse said: “We are incredibly excited to launch the Women’s Network at the London Diamond Bourse. With a goal to create a strong, supportive community for women who work in or around the diamond and jewellery sector. I have witnessed first-hand how women can thrive when given the right support and opportunities. This network will create a space for women to share their experiences, break down barriers and access the right support to grow in the industry.

The events will feature a series of informal talks and discussions, with industry leaders sharing their experiences and insights into how women can thrive in the traditionally male dominated diamond trade. Attendees will have the opportunity to networking with colleagues, form valuable relationships, and learn from each other’s insights.

Deborah Smookler, member of the Council of Management and a key advocate for the Women’s Network was instrumental to the launch. She comments: “The Women’s Network represents an invaluable opportunity for women in our industry to connect, share insights, and support each other’s growth. By fostering a community rooted in collaboration, we are creating a ripple effect that strengthens and our industry and empowers us to lead with innovation and impact.”

Lisa Levinson, member of the Council of Management and Head of UK at the Natural Diamond Council, said: “Diverse perspectives enhance consumer understanding - the key to growth in the diamond industry. The British fine jewellery world is full of top calibre talent and through the Women’s Network we will support each other to better deliver a diamond experience for our consumers.”

The Women’s Network forms an integral part of the London Diamond Bourse’s broader commitment to diversity, equality and inclusion. With its rich heritage and forward-thinking vision, the LDB continues to be a leading force in the UK’s diamond trade, bringing together professionals from all corners of the industry to collaborate and innovate.

The London Diamond Bourse will host their second Women’s Network event on the 12th of February 2025, an evening of informal after work drinks in Hatton Garden. We are delighted to extend an invitation beyond our membership, to the wider trade.
