Qatar Diamond Exchange Strengthens Links with Key Asian Diamond Markets

The Qatar Diamond Exchange (QDE) has expanded its international partnerships by signing Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with diamond exchanges in Singapore, Shanghai, and Tokyo. The agreements were concluded during the 41st World Diamond Congress in Singapore and are aimed at deepening commercial and institutional cooperation between Qatar and major Asian diamond markets.

The MoUs were signed by QDE Director Ghanim Nasser Al Saadi and representatives of the three partner exchanges: Fabio Cascapera of the Diamond Exchange of Singapore, Lin Qiang of the Shanghai Diamond Exchange, and Michio Iwasaki of the Tokyo Diamond Exchange.

Under the agreements, members of the exchanges will be encouraged to develop business relationships, share market knowledge, and establish direct commercial connections. The partnerships also provide for reciprocal visits and participation in industry events, including tenders, auctions, diamond viewings, and other activities organized by the participating exchanges.

Another key focus is strengthening confidence in natural diamonds and precious stones through greater transparency and adherence to internationally recognized industry practices. The partnerships support standards such as the World Diamond Council’s System of Warranties and initiatives associated with the Responsible Jewellery Council.

Al Saadi said the agreements represent an important step in expanding QDE’s presence across Asia while creating new avenues for trade, investment, and cooperation. He also highlighted Doha’s potential to serve as a trusted link between Asian diamond centers and international markets.

Representatives of the Singapore, Shanghai, and Tokyo exchanges similarly emphasized the importance of trust, transparency, knowledge-sharing, and stronger commercial ties.

Established in July 2026 at Qatar’s Ras Bufontas Free Zone, QDE offers a regulated platform for diamond trading and related services. The exchange is intended to connect Doha with global diamond markets while supporting Qatar’s precious-stones industry and broader economic diversification objectives under Qatar National Vision 2030.
