Leaders Convene for Luanda Accord Follow Up at Mining Indaba

Government representatives, industry executives and trade bodies met on Monday for a high level follow up session to the Luanda Accord on the sidelines of Investing in African Mining Indaba.

The meeting brought together participants from diamond producing countries and organizations across the value chain, continuing engagement between governments and industry stakeholders.

Those present included Sabyasachi Ray, Executive Director of Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council; Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman of DMCC; Al Cook, Chief Executive Officer of De Beers; and Amber Pepper, CEO of the Natural Diamond Council.

Ministerial representatives included Modestus Amutse of Namibia, Bogolo Joy Kenewendo of Botswana, and Diamantino Azevedo of Angola. Also in attendance were Sandrine Conseiller, Chair of the Natural Diamond Council, and Shaunak Parikh, Vice Chairman of GJEPC, along with other delegates.

Participants reviewed developments following the signing of the Luanda Accord and discussed ongoing coordination between producing nations and industry organizations.
